Bobby Jindal has pledged to raise significant funds through the Louisiana Republican Party to elect more conservatives to the Legislature. This is really important for two reasons.

First, the focus on true conservatives in Louisiana is an exciting development. I’m hopeful it signals a bolder, more engaged Bobby already.

And second, this greatly increases the overall push to elect more strong conservatives to the Legislature this fall, building on our long-standing LCRM* campaign plans.

Yesterday, I sent a personal note to Bobby with a $10,000 contribution to this new effort from my campaign fund.

And I’ll be sure LCRM coordinates with these Republican Party efforts to maximize our collective impact.

Please be involved and supportive in any way you can, whether through this new effort, LCRM, individual legislative campaigns, or all of the above.

As I stressed a few weeks ago, our Louisiana elections this fall really are crucially important. Thanks.

The day after Obamacare was passed into law, I offered a bill to repeal it in the U.S. Senate.  I also support a proposal in the House that would force a vote on the repeal of Obamacare over the objections of Charlie Melancon’s ally Nancy Pelosi (Melancon has voted with Pelosi 93 percent of the time).

Reason # 2: (From Jan on Facebook): “Scared to hold town hall meetings.”

Jan is correct. Last summer, when so many Louisianians wanted to have their voices heard about their concerns about Obamacare, Charlie Melancon was missing in action. I held more than 20 health care town hall meeting last August alone. Click here to see a web video I put together last summer to highlight Melancon’s hiding on health care.

Reason # 3: (From Clifford on Facebook): “Nancy Pelosi….that’s reason enough.”

As Clifford points out, Charlie voted for San Francisco liberal Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House on three separate occasions.

Reason # 4: He has voted to for every single Wall Street bailout.

Reason # 5: (From Troy on Facebook): “Charlie Melancon was quoted in a media interview as saying the Stanford victims “should maybe have known better” and that it was “too good to be true” (5% CD’s versus 7% CD’s).”

Troy is referring to a WWL interview where Melancon insulted thousands of Louisiana victims who lost their savings in the Stanford Ponzi Scheme.

Reason # 7: Troy’s comment reminded me about another interview where Melancon told a CNN anchor that the oil spill was being overplayed. I could not believe he said that as we were all trying to explain to the rest of the country how bad the oil spill was affecting our marshes and our economy.

Congressman Melancon was quoted in a media interview as saying the Stanford people “should maybe have known better” and that it was “too good to be true” (5% CD’s versus 7% CD’s). What he was thinking when he said this I cannot say, but I do know that these people did not know better and did not believe it was too good to be true.

Reason # 8: (From Gary on Facebook): “Melancon’s committee votes allowed a lot of second chances for abortion loopholes and special considerations into the final health care bill.”

Reason # 9: (From Kathy on Facebook): “Flip-flop-flip-flop-flip-flop.”

Reason #10: Melancon voted for the Auto Bailout.

Reason #11: Melancon talks a big game about wanting grassroots debates, but when a grassroots organization invited him to debate the issues impacting Louisiana families, Melancon flat out stated he wants nothing to do with the Tea Party and won’t accept any of their debate offers.  I’m attending the Red River Tea Party debate in Shreveport on Sept. 16, but Melancon refused to go.

Reason #12: (Andy on Facebook): “[Melancon] is an empty suit.”

Reason #13: (Joey on Faceboook): “How about Melancon’s “Take their toys and go home” analysis? No one in the oil patch will forget that comment.”

Here’s the quote Joey is referring to:

“…the people that have been and worked in this industry and for this industry and supported it, it’s now kind of like, okay, you screwed up our gulf,  you screwed up our marshes, and now you say just because they want to shut you down for a short period of time, you take your toys and you’re going to go somewhere else.” (MSNBC Interview, 6/4/10)

Reason #14: Melancon said he didn’t even want to be in this race for Senate.

“Before deciding to get into the race challenging Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter, Democratic U.S. Rep Charlie Melancon says he spent “the better part of a year” trying to find someone else to challenge the incumbent.” (The Daily Advertiser, 9/21/10)

Hmmm….kind of makes you wonder…

Reason #15: (Robert on Facebook): “Charlie won’t make a stand on ANYTHING in public but he’ll sure lick the boots of his masters in committee won’t he?”

Reason #16: (Kevin on Facebook): “We cannot afford to have Democrats remain in charge of the White House, Congress and the Senate. Southern democrats especially try and convince you that they are fiscal conservatives. That BS!”

Reason #17: I received the highly sought-after endorsement of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association, which is a majority Democrat group.

Reason #18: (Yvonne on Facebook): “Melancon is not a leader, he’s a follower. We need a leader!”

Reason #19: (Julie from Facebook): “Charlie Melancon voted NO on requiring photo ID for voting in federal elections. The potential for fraud is too great in any election, much less one of national importance, for a photo ID not to be required.”

Reason # 20: I received the endorsement of National Right to Life.

National Right to Life rated me 100% in the 110^th Congress. They rated Melancon 42%.

Reason #21: (Margie on Facebook): “Melancon’s ad says he votes for Louisianians. Well, everything I saw he voted for was opposite what I wanted.”

Reason #22: (Renee from Facebook): “Vitter votes for small business and Melancon doesn’t! The rubber meets the road with actual votes and not rhetoric!”

Reason #23: (Paige from Facebook): ”Melancon=Mistake!!!! [Senator] Vitter, you have worked so tirelessly for the people…You have our entire family’s vote!”

Reason #25: The Gun Owners of America gave Melancon C. They gave me an A+. The Gun Owners of American have also endorsed me.

Reason #27: (Constance from Facebook): “I don’t think we can risk Charlie Melancon in another office. Obama bought and paid for!”

Reason #28: Melancon voted to make it easier for illegals to get actual welfare checks.

Reason #29: Melancon voted to make it easier for illegals to get taxpayer-funded benefits.

Reason #30: Melancon voted against allowing police to arrest and detain illegals.

I’m Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser, and I want you to know that what Charlie Melancon is saying about David Vitter and the oil disaster is a load of “you know what.”

I’m endorsing David Vitter for U.S. Senate, and so are Democrats and Republicans all along the coast.

David Vitter worked around the clock to help provide leadership during the disaster.

David Vitter authored emergency legislation to hold BP fully accountable for all of the damages without limit. And he fought the Obama bureaucracy for more boom and to get our barrier island plan moving.

Please join me in voting for David Vitter for U.S. Senate on November 2.

I voted against confirming Kagan’s nomination because her judicial philosophy with regard to these issues does not appear to be consistent with the values of Louisiana voters. How would Charlie Melancon have voted? Since Melancon is seeking election to the U.S. Senate, he should answer this question. Based on Melancon’s record of steadfast support for President Obama’s agenda, I can only assume he would have voted “yes.”
