    Aerial Tour of Oil Spill

    April 30, 2010

I just finished an aerial tour of the oil spill with the Cabinet Secretaries. Was very useful. Could see the extent of slick, the ships working as bases for submersibles, and the location of relief well being drilled. I’m doing everything I can to help those affected and make sure the damage gets fixed.

Melancon Insults Victims Robbed of Retirement Savings

    Team,

Thousands of Louisianians have been scammed out of their retirement savings and Charlie Melancon has the audacity to insult them by saying “They should have maybe known better.”

Watch the video yourself of Charlie insulting hard working Louisiana families who are victims of a malicious criminal by following this link.

    Senator David Vitter

Once you watch the video displaying the cold feelings Charlie has towards these victims, take 5 seconds to send this video to your friends. With the click of one button, you can add the video to your Facebook page.

Roughly 1,700 Louisianians fell victim to a fraudulent investor named Allen Stanford who scammed them out of a combined $500 million in investments.

These people invested their hard-earned retirement savings with the Stanford Financial Group in good faith that it would be there for them when they retire. Now, these investments are gone through an illegal Ponzi scheme and Charlie Melancon says that the victims “should have maybe known better.”

This is an absolute tragedy for so many Louisiana families.

I called for the SEC’s Inspector General to produce and release a report on the handling of the Stanford case. The report showed that there were failures at the SEC to inform investors of potentially damaging risks.

I will continue to use my position on the Senate Banking Committee to lead the fight to hold the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) feet to the fire on behalf of Louisiana victims.

Last August I held a hearing in Baton Rouge with many of the victims and it gave me a better understanding that they were completely misled. It is a huge insult to say they should have known better. I will continue to hold the SEC accountable and work for Louisiana victims on this very serious matter.

But Charlie Melancon won’t. His only action is to insult the victims. Help show Louisianians the real Melancon by getting others to see this video.

    Sincerely,

    David

Oil Rig Explosion in Gulf of Mexico

    April 28, 2010

Wendy and I have been praying for the victims and families involved with the oil rig explosion. I want to continue helping them, figure out what went wrong, and make sure we get the spill cleaned up. I’ve been in constant touch with the NOAA, and I recently met with the Coast Guard and BP to discuss the next steps.

It was a great to be honored by the Propeller Club, which represents all facets of the maritime industry that is so important to our Louisiana economy. Past honorees were former House Speaker Tip O’Neil and former U.S. Sens. Trent Lott and John Breaux.

    Victory for Louisiana Oyster Producers

We won a victory for oyster producers and everyone who enjoys raw oysters this week! Yesterday I reached an agreement with a bipartisan group of senators on a measure to block future FDA efforts to ban consumption of raw oysters.  Post your favorite oyster dish on my Facebook page.

My Vote Against Obama’s Bailout Bill

Just voted against Obama’s bailout bill. His approach is wrong for financial reform. We need a bill that will end ‘Too Big to Fail,’ stop taxpayer bailouts of failed banks, and target real reforms. I’ll continue to fight government bailouts and work with other members of the Banking Committee on common sense reforms.
