Health Care Survey
July 29, 2009
Have you seen the news about health care recently?
President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and their most liberal friends in Congress are doing everything they can to take control of your health insurance. They are pushing a $1.5 Trillion, 1,000+ page government-run health care bill into law as quickly as possible and using their 60-seat majority to silence all debate.
This bill will inject a massive network of government bureaucracy into your patient-doctor relationship, increasing tax burden and decreasing medical choice and quality for all Louisianans, even those who provide insurance for their own families.
It’s time for us to stand up and make our voices heard on this potentially catastrophic legislation that Washington’s most liberal politicians are using to build their resumes and further their careers on Capitol Hill. It may be good for them, but it’s definitely bad for Louisiana.
I’ve just posted a brand new Health Care survey on my website, and I’m eager to hear your immediate thoughts on the issue as I fight this initiative in the U.S. Senate. A government takeover of health care will raise taxes and cost thousands of jobs in our state, so it’s important that I hear from you right away.
Liberals in Congress think they have all the answers to our nation’s health care problems, and every time, their solutions involve more spending, more taxes and bigger government.
Help me stand up and tell them what you think about their big-government plans for health care reform by taking my online survey today.
Thanks for your ongoing support,
David
Comments OffMy Vote Against Sotomayor
July 28, 2009
Today, I announced my decision to vote against Judge Sotomayor’s confirmation as a Supreme Court Justice. I believe it is my responsibility to do so, as a representative of the people of Louisiana, for a number of reasons.
I continue to have very serious concerns about Judge Sotomayor nomination to the Supreme Court, including whether she understands the proper role of the judge as an impartial umpire – not picking winners and losers based on empathy or personal biases.
During her confirmation hearings, Judge Sotomayor made additional statements that gave me pause, specifically her ambiguity regarding the right of every American to the Second Amendment, her belief in the use of foreign law in decision-making and her terse and dismissive comments on her handling of the firefighters discrimination case.
The Constitution is clear that Supreme Court justices must interpret the law and not legislate from the bench. I’m not certain that Judge Sotomayor can meet these mandates, and more important, I believe President Obama is counting on her to do so based on his own past statements in support of an activist judiciary.
For these reasons, I must oppose her nomination. I appreciate your ongoing support and will continue to fight for the people of Louisiana in the U.S. Senate.

New Web Video: Charlie Melancon’s Liberal LuvFest
July 24, 2009
That didn’t take long. President Obama and his liberal friends in Washington, DC, have already thrown their support behind my opponent, Charlie Melancon.
They’ve even tapped Obama’s wealthiest supporters in Massachusetts to help him raise campaign cash.
Just one month after Charlie Melancon told President Obama and the National Democrat Senatorial Campaign Committee he was running for the U.S. Senate against me, they flew him up to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, where Obama’s liberal supporters are writing big checks for his campaign against me.
I’ve just posted a video on my website of Obama’s friends entertaining Charlie Melancon in Massachusetts. To see the video, please follow this link.
I’ve been fighting the Obama Administration and their reckless spending initiatives at every turn, and I knew standing up to President Obama and his allies would help my opponent, Charlie Melancon, raise huge amounts of campaign cash from Obama’s liberal buddies.
I hope you’ll view my new web video on Charlie Melancon’s trip up to Massachusetts today. With your help, I’ll keep fighting the Obama-Melancon money machine and continue fighting for Louisiana’s future in the U.S. Senate.
Thank you,
David
Government-Run Health Care: A Bureaucratic Mess
July 21, 2009
As you may have heard, President Obama and his liberal friends in the U.S. House of Representatives are doing everything they can to push a 1,000+ page, $1.5 Trillion health care plan through Congress. They want this bill written into law as quickly as possible, before their super majority expires and before your representatives have had a chance to debate the implications of such a wide-reaching piece of legislation.
Not only will this plan push us even deeper into unprecedented levels of national debt and raise taxes on families and businesses, but it will inject a massive bureaucratic network of government employees between you and your doctor.
Take a look at the diagram below to see what government-run health care could become:
National Health Care Org Chart
Massive and inefficient webs of bureaucracy have never been good answers to our country’s challenges, and they still aren’t today. I’ve proposed alternate solutions to lower the cost of health care, such as allowing the re-importation of less expensive prescription drugs from Canada, and I will continue to make our voices heard on this issue.
I am strongly opposed to socialized medicine and to letting Washington bureaucrats make health care decisions instead of leaving it between doctors and their patients, especially when it’s tax-payer funded and will increase our debt. For more on this and other issues, please visit my issues page today.
Thanks for your support,
David
Department of Agriculture Expenditures
July 20, 2009
It’s no secret that Washington spending has gotten out of control and is doing very little. After almost $1 Trillion in stimulus spending, unemployment continues to skyrocket. Taxpayer funded automotive bailouts were met with bankruptcy claims, and billions have been spent on bank takeovers.
Today, new reports surfaced that show the Obama Administration’s priorities when it comes to spending taxpayer dollars wisely and respectfully. Take a look these Department of Agriculture expenditures, courtesy of Recovery.org:
- $3,722,800 on Ham from companies in California
- $351,807 on a Dumbwaiter in Brooklyn, NY
- $7,270,828 on Cheese from companies in Minnesota and Ohio
- $16,784,272 spent on “Canned Pork” from a company in Minnesota
- $1,444,100 spent on a “Door Repair” in Texas
The list goes on and on. I don’t know about you, but I’m outraged by these wasteful expenditures.
I will continue to fight in the U.S. Senate for a return to fiscal responsibility, and the first step in doing so is delivering the facts to the people. If you’d like to help me keep pushing forward, please make your voice heard by joining my campaign team or making a quick and secure donation today. I will not let you down in the fight for the state of Louisiana.
Thanks for your support,
David
Help Me Hold Washington Accountable
July 14, 2009
After speaking to many folks who supported the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) parties across Louisiana this past year, I was proud to recently coauthor the Federal Sunshine Act, S. 604 (Senate version of HR 1207).
The Federal Sunshine Act is important legislation because it would mandate an audit of the Federal Reserve System and of the Federal Reserve banks. I believe it is important to hold our leaders accountable for every taxpayer dollar, which this legislation will help accomplish. I hope you’ll join me as a citizen co-sponsor of this legislation today at www.davidvitter.com/SunshineAct.
I’m doing everything I can to fight Washington’s liberal administration from spending our country into unprecedented levels of debt, and more closely monitoring the use of tax-payer funds is a step in the right direction.
Thanks for your support.
A Strong Finish and a Fight Ahead
July 8, 2009
I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you – my fellow Louisiana citizens – for helping me push forward over the past three months. From our citizen co-sponsors to our grassroots TEA Party leaders to our generous donors and everyone in between, you helped me keep up the fight for Louisiana in the U.S. Senate and made your voices heard.
I’m humbled to report that our campaign had a very strong finish this past quarter – we raised $1.2 million, bringing us to $3.2 million cash on hand to carry on the fight for Louisiana. I couldn’t have done it without you, and thanks to your support, I’m ready to fight the liberal attack groups who are spending everything they can to defeat me and silence our voices.
But our fight is far from over. President Obama and his liberal allies are doing everything they can to force an energy bill through the House and Senate that could cost Louisiana tens of thousands of jobs. And Speaker Pelosi and President Obama will not rest until they force government-run healthcare on the American people, costing taxpayers billions of dollars and placing more control in the hands of government bureaucrats.
With your continued help, we will stop them – and their special interest counterparts – from forcing their liberal agenda on the people of Louisiana.
Thanks again for your dedication to our cause. I couldn’t have made it this far without you, and I hope I can count on your continued support as I continue to lead the charge for Louisiana in the U.S. Senate.
Your friend,
David
Comments OffTea Party Thanks
July 6, 2009
I wanted to say a quick thanks to everyone who participated in TEA Parties in Louisiana last week. You helped us send a message to Washington’s liberal politicians about runaway spending and the growing deficit that is putting future generations of Louisianans at risk.
It’s no secret – at the current pace, the federal government will add 1 trillion dollars per year to the national debt over the next decade, doubling the size of our debt in 5 years and tripling it in 10, and we must stand up and do everything we can to stop the bleeding.
I’m grateful to you – my fellow Louisiana conservatives – for making your voices heard this weekend, and I will keep fighting hard in the U.S. Senate for a return to fiscal responsibility.
As always, thanks for your support.
